Tono is the winner of a 2010 Dora Mavor Moore Award and two awards at the 2010 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards.

Tono is a visually brilliant dance and live music creation that connects the world Indigenous cultures of Canada, Mongolia and China. Tono is heavily grounded in the theme of horse culture, spanning plains traditions in Asia and North America with a storyline about shamanism and the creature universally regarded as the epitome of strength, grace and beauty.

Conceived and directed by Sandra Laronde, with choreography by Sandra Laronde and Roger Sinha and featuring 11 dancers and live musicians, Tono is a stampede for the senses.

Tono’s world stage line-up includes: the 2014 Shanghai International Arts Festival; the 2011 Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts; 2011 Minzu University; 2011 State Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; 2011 Art College of Inner Mongolia University; the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad; opening for the 2010 World Expo Shanghai in China; 2008 Beijing Cultural Olympiad; Meet in Beijing Festival; International Arts and Culture Festival in Inner Mongolia; The Banff Centre; Luminato Festival; High Performance Rodeo; Arden Theatre; Yukon Arts Centre, and Place des Arts.

Tono continued to mesmerize audiences as we opened the 2011 National Aboriginal Achievement Awards at Edmonton's Jubilee Theatre to a live audience of 2000 people on March 11, 2011. They were broadcast on April 9, 2011 on Global Television and the Aboriginal People's Television Network, and reached over 30 million viewers.

Commissioned as part of the 2008 Banff Summer Arts Festival in celebration of the Banff Centre's 75th Anniversary Celebration, and by Luminato: Toronto’s Festival of Arts and Creativity.
